Gordon D. Spradlin passed away Aug. 8, 2025, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Gordon was born Dec. 25, 1930, in Abiquiu, N.M., to Russell Spradlin and Louise (Trujillo) Spradlin. He was the oldest of five brothers.
In 1949, Gordon enlisted in the New Mexico National Guard, and later joined the U.S. Army Reserves. After his military service, he attended New Mexico Highlands University and graduated in 1955 with a degree in education.
In 1959, Gordon took a job teaching for the U.S. Army Schools on military bases in Okinawa and Germany. He met his wife, Marian, while they both en route to teach in Okinawa and they were married there in 1959. Their daughter Anne was born in Okinawa in 1960 and son Bruce in Germany in 1963.
The family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1965, and settled on a small ranch in the Wrenco area. Gordon was a teacher at Farmin Elementary School in Sandpoint, where he taught sixth grade science and language arts for 27 years.
After his retirement, Gordon enjoyed many years of traveling, camping and fishing with his wife, Marian.
Gordon was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint for 57 years.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Marian; his daughter, Anne of Sandpoint; son Bruce (Charla-jo) of Athol, Idaho; granddaughter McKaela; and brother Carl. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Paul, William, and Edward.
A private service will be held at a later date.
