Kroc masters make splash at nationals

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Thirteen members of the Kroc Masters Swim Team competed at the U.S. Masters National Championships Aug. 6-10 at the Weyerhaeuser Aquatic Center.

Swimmers ages ranged from Carl Eisen (24) to Gloria Waggoner (78) and a complement of both national team rookies like Eisen, April Robinson (48), and Tom Hickcox (72) and seasoned veterans.

All swimmers medaled (a total of 31 medals) and contributed to the team’s score, helping the Kroc Masters finish 25th out of 201 teams.

Leading the way for Kroc Masters was Charlene O’Brien in the 65-69 age group, scoring 39 points in individual events and winning the 50-meter butterfly, placing second in the 800 freestyle and third in the 200 mixed free relay, teaming up with Mike Hamm (68), Waggoner and Hickcox in the 280+ age group.

The meet was swum in long course meters (50-meter pool), with more than 1,000 swimmers ages 18 to 95.
