A familiar hand at the helm of the Coeur d’Alene Press

CLINT SCHROEDER/President and Publisher of Hagadone News | Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 months AGO

One of the strengths of a community newspaper is that it truly knows its community — not just through headlines and photos, but through the people who lead its newsroom.

That’s why I’m pleased to share that Bill Buley has been appointed managing editor of the Coeur d’Alene Press.

Bill is well known among our readers. Over more than 15 years working with The Press — in two different terms — he has faithfully covered North Idaho's life with dedication, curiosity and care. He spent over a decade as our assistant managing editor, led The Garden Island on Kauai for seven years, and returned to Coeur d’Alene to do what he loves: telling the stories that matter here at home.

Recently, Bill has guided the press through some of our most challenging coverage, including the tragic event June 29 that deeply affected our community. His leadership kept our local voice strong, ensured accuracy despite national attention, and reminded us all why local journalism is so important.

As managing editor, Bill will focus on rebuilding a strong editorial board, mentoring emerging reporters, improving our design and photography and ensuring our Opinion and Op-Ed pages genuinely reflect your voice. He is dedicated to listening to your readers when they have editorial concerns — because your feedback matters to us.

Bill understands our community. He understands our newsroom. And most importantly, he recognizes that the Press belongs to the people of North Idaho. I’m proud to have him lead our Coeur d’Alene editorial team as we continue our mission to inform, inspire, and connect with our audience.
