A new ice cream shop, called Cone Crossing, is already bringing smiles to Rathdrum’s Main Street.

Since the shop’s grand opening last weekend, the best part for owner Nicole Dorscher has been the way children’s faces light up when they’re handed their cup or cone.

“One boy called our cotton candy flavor ‘the most colorful ice cream in the world,’" Dorscher said. “The feeling of knowing the kids love it ... that’s what we’re after.”

Dorscher opened Cone Crossing alongside longtime colleague Raffi Peltekian, who also owns Cascadia Pizza. The two had originally worked together in western Washington.

“I wanted something that was good for families, especially for those with small children,” Dorscher said.

Cone Crossing’s menu has 24 flavors of ice cream made by Cascade Glacier, based in Eugene, Ore. Options include many gluten-free flavors, a dairy-free vanilla option and dairy-free mango sorbet. Dorscher said the menu may change over time as they learn which flavors are best received by the community.

“We’re going to evolve as we go,” Dorscher said.

So far, "Huckleberry Dream" has been the crowd favorite.

The shop now has a sign to welcome customers in from Main Street, and Dorscher has continued to be active on social media to bring people in.

“I’m excited about meeting everyone in the community,” she said. “Kind of making my mark in that way."

Cone Crossing is open from noon to 9 p.m. daily and is located at 8122 W. Main St., Rathdrum.
