Harriet Lucille Snyder, 96

Harriet Lucille (Herington) Snyder, 96, ascended into glory on Aug. 19, 2025. She was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Columbus to Mary Jane (McGonegal) and Ezrey Elmore Herington. Her family moved to Bridger Canyon in 1934 where her father was killed in a logging accident. Her mother re-married Willam "Bill" Anderson in Columbus. In 1935 her family moved to Columbia Falls then to Kalispell in 1938, and in 1941 the family moved to Cutbank. After the passing of her stepfather in 1942 the family moved back to Kalispell. 

On March 23, 1946, she married Curtis J. Snyder in Columbus, Kansas, together they had three children, Laird, Van and Katharine. In 1953, Harriet was baptized and accepted the Lord as her savior. She taught Sunday school and Bible Club at Bissell, Sparks, Batavia and Prospect Park (currently West Valley School). In the summers she held vacation bible school at Bissell, Batavia and Demersvil Schools. She is currently a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She worked at the Nustyle Café, Buyrite Drug, Super Cream Ice Cream Shop, Woolworth Soda Fountain, and ABC Tot Shop. When her children had grown, she was an inventory clerk at JC Penny’s where she retired in 1970. Throughout the years her love for the outdoors was a predominant part of her life where she enjoyed hunting, fishing, and a magnitude of camping trips with family, friends, and of course the Marion Baptist Church campouts. 

Places close to her heart were, Spotted Bear, Kintla Lake in Glacier National Park, Point Pleasant in the Swan, Tally Lake, Koocanusa and of course their cabin on Little Bitterroot Lake. She loved to travel—with two trips to Alaska, one by ferry and the other in their camper van, as well as trips to Edmonton, Canada and the coast of California and Arizona. When Curt retired in 1971, they wintered in Arizona settling in the little town of Quartzite. Her biggest hobby was art. She worked in oils, pastels, and pencils, and participated in several art shows with the Glacier Art Museum formally known as the Hockaday Art Gallery. She was a charter member of the Artists and Craftsmen of Flathead Valley Organization. 

Harriet was preceded in death by her father, Elmore Herington (1933), two stepfathers, William R. Anderson (1942) and Owen W. Olsen (1956); her mother, Mary Jane Olsen (1969); three sisters and one brother, Mary Jane (1937), Helen, Beverly, and Billy (1944); her husband and life partner of 78 years, Curtis J Snyder (2024); and two children, Katharine L. Hall (2014) and Van M. Snyder (2016). 

She is survived by her loving son, Laird Snyder of Kalispell, two granddaughters, Rebecca (David) Strong of Soldotna, Alaska and Jacqueline (Travis) Riess of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; six great-grandchildren, Calvin (Alexis) Strong, Everett (Cadence) Strong and Levi Strong of Soldotna, Alaska, Michael (Nikki) Dunning of Havre, Mariah (William) Mitchell of Lake Havasu City and Russell Dunning of Lake Havasu City; three great-great-granddaughters, Scarlett Dunning, Leonna Mitchell, and Ava Strong; nieces, Carolin (Dan) Tompkins and Marylou (Ronald) Price; nephew, Rick Stidman; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church on Friday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. With visitation 1 hour prior to service. Burial will follow service at C.E Conrad Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Myron Wilson and Pastor John Weber officiating.
