Michael "Mike" Dorce Colyer, 77, of Columbia Falls passed away on Aug. 13, 2025, with family by his side. He was born Feb. 23, 1948, in Plains to the late Jerry Paris Colyer and Julia Mae Colyer (Cox) and grew up in Paradise.
Mike served in the US Army during Vietnam as a medic, stationed on the DMZ in Korea. In 1970 he married Sherrie Selmer and started his family in Skagway, Alaska. He worked in Skagway for the WP&YR as a brakeman and conductor. He also worked for the National Park Service at the Klondike National Park as the historic preservation specialist. He returned to Montana, moving to Columbia Falls to work at Glacier National Park as the maintenance supervisor.
Mike was a loving husband, father, brother and son. He loved spending time with his brothers; many sisters and the people he considered friends and church family.
His purpose in life was to grow closer to Jesus and would want all reading this to know Jesus loves you. Jesus will free you from your sins. Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, and you will be saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
Mike is survived by wife of 55 years, Sherrie M. Colyer; children, Michael Wayne Colyer (Trina) and Jeremy Dean Colyer (Robin); grandchildren, Wesley and Jenna; and siblings, Jerry, Karval, Barb, Jackie, Dave, Terry, and Kelly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Audrey and Wanda.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21 at First Baptist Church of Whitefish, 6232 US Hwy. 93 S., Whitefish, MT 59937. Family and friends may begin to visit on Thursday starting at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment to follow at Montana Veteran’s Home Cemetery, Talbot Road, Columbia Falls, MT 59912.
