COLUMBIA BASIN — Summer isn’t over yet! Here are some things to enjoy before the children start to head back to school. 


Aug. 22 


First Day of School Sign 


Create a free sign you can personalize to mark the start of your student's new academic year. A variety of styles will be available for you to fill out at the museum or take home with you to complete later. Author Meet-and-Greet: Robert Poindexter 


Meet Robert Poindexter, a passionate local author whose book “Who Do You Think You Are?: Retaking Control of Our Life” explores how our choices — not our circumstances — shape the lives we lead. Friday Film Series ‘Twilight’ 


Moses Lake Creative District begins its Friday Film Series with a showing of “Twilight,” the 2008 movie that defined a generation. When Bella Swan moves from sunny Arizona to rainy Forks, Wash., she doesn’t expect her life to change much — until she meets Edward Cullen. Mysterious and impossibly handsome, Edward harbors a deadly secret: He’s a vampire who doesn’t drink human blood. Their connection sparks a love story that’s both dangerous and unforgettable. Costumes welcome. Western States American Breed Congress 


Saddle up for a weekend of equestrian brilliance, where top-notch horses showcase their unique qualities, from stunning coats to impressive athleticism. The Western States American Breed Congress is not just a show — it's a gathering of breed enthusiasts celebrating the diversity and splendor of American breeds. Aug. 23 


CBHA Run for a Cause 


Join Columbia Basin Health Association for a colorful 5K run through Othello. Runners will get splashed with paint along the route for a messy, light-hearted experience. Imagination Running Wild 


Children wanted to turn their creativity loose on a parking lot. All the chalk, paint, and space will be supplied; artists supply the imagination No child is too small or too big. Free drinks, snacks, music and games, plus a chalk obstacle course and giant bubbles. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Moses Lake Alliance Church, 1100 N. Grape Drive. Info: 509-765-6656. 


Wild Weave Basket Class 


Get wild with this no-pattern, no-rules basket weaving class. This class will use remnants from other projects to weave one-of-a-kind baskets. Students will receive instruction on how to weave the beginning base and advice on making the project successful. Weavers will choose from various sizes and colors of basket reeds and design their baskets as they go. Basket weaving experience is helpful but not required; all materials are provided. This is a long class, so feel free to bring your favorite snacks to munch on. Bottled water and a few treats will be provided. Museum members are eligible for discounts on classes. Pay What You Can Chair Massage 


Whether you’re stressed, sore, curious about massage, or just need a little midday break, come grab a quick, relaxing chair massage — no pressure, no judgment. You decide what you can afford, and every dollar helps support our local practice and makes massage more accessible in our community. Open to everyone with no appointment needed. ‘Masquerade at Masquers’ 


Slip behind the velvet curtain and into a night of elegance, intrigue, and theatrical delight at the Masquers Theater’s membership gala. Enjoy complimentary food and libations fit for royalty, while you mingle, munch and make merry. Test your luck and wit with mysterious games, be dazzled by live entertainment, and uncover delightful surprises around every corner. Free to the public. Tower Plaza Car Show 


Classic vehicles and live music. Bring a tent if the weather is warm, as there’s not much shade. Bathrooms, restaurant and store on-site. Prizes will be awarded for Best Antique (vehicles produced before 1960), Best Classic (1960-1979), Best Modern (1980-present), Best Rat Rod, Best Motorcycle, Best Lowrider and Crowd Favorite/Best Overall. Free Kids’ Movie: ‘Lilo & Stitch Live Action Movie’ 


Live-action reimagining of Disney's 2002 classic movie Lilo & Stitch. The wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family. Rated PG. Feel free to bring snacks to nibble on while watching the movie, just clean up after yourself before you leave. Car Show on the Green
