MIDLAND, Texas — North Idaho College outlasted North Central Texas 15-13 in the fifth set to claim a 3-2 win in the Midland Kick-Off Classic on Friday.

Later, NIC fell 25-17-25-19, 25-23 to tournament host Midland.

“We’re getting closer to a lineup that maximizes our strengths,” second-year NIC coach Drew Pascua said. “It was a really competitive match (against Midland) and we put ourselves in position to fight at the end, but couldn’t quite finish it off to move the match into a fourth set. I really feel that we are matched up well with Midland and the mistakes we made at the end were aggressive, so we’ve got to keep learning to those.”

NIC (1-2) concludes the three-day tournament today against Colby Community College.
