PREP ROUNDUP: Royce, Bonville win at Post Falls River Run

POST FALLS — Timberlake junior Caleb Royce was the top finisher in the boys junior/senior class race at the 2-mile Post Falls River Run at Kiwanis Park on Saturday. 

Royce finished in 10 minutes, 51.49 seconds. Post Falls senior Talia Bonville won the girls junior/senior race in 12:36.84. 

Lakeland freshman Olivia Meredith won the girls freshman/sophomore race in 13:41.83 and Sandpoint sophomore Kai Budensiek won the boys freshman/sophomore race in 11:18.33.

SANDPOINT — Junior Ella Jeanselme had 15 kills as the visiting Timberwolves beat the Bulldogs 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 in the season opener for both teams at Les Rogers Court. 

Camryn Woodman added 11 kills for Lake City, and Kate Moglia had 17 assists and three kills. 

“Strong start to the season, getting those first-game jitters out,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Sandpoint is extremely efficient in their out-of-system attacks, so it was a great first test for us. This group is a ton of fun to coach.” 

Lake City plays host to Moscow on Tuesday. 

Sandpoint returns to action Saturday at home vs. Bonners Ferry.

COEUR d'ALENE — From start to finish, backline to front, the Timberwolves had a day to open the season according to coach Matt Ruchti. 

Junior Riley Brazle scored a goal and assisted on three others as the Timberwolves beat the Bulldogs at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex. 

“Riley played a couple of great balls off corner kicks today,” Ruchti said. “She’s a complete player and creates goal scoring opportunities all over the field. Today, it was a complete team effort. Our defenders did a great job, our front line was great today. It was a great outcome and result for us.” 

Junior Nell Hutchins scored two goals for Lake City (1-0-0), which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday. 

Sandpoint (0-2-0, 0-1-0 IEL) hosts Post Falls on Monday at Memorial Field.
