PREP BOYS SOCCER: Sandpoint's Hall, Drube stellar in victory over Post Falls

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 26, 2025 4:00 PM

Sandpoint 7, Post Falls 1

POST FALLS — When Huxley Hall gets some space, he's dangerous.

That's exactly what happened Monday afternoon when the senior netted a hat trick during the Bulldogs' six-goal 6A/5A Inland Empire League road win over the Trojans.

Hall jumped on a bouncing ball in the box during the first couple of minutes to net the first goal of his senior campaign. He then fired in back-to-back goals during the final minute (40') of the first half, off an assist by sophomore Alvaro Santos, and during the fifth (45') minute of the second half, off a pass from sophomore Pax Longanecker, to put Sandpoint in front 6-0.

Freshman Wesley Drube was also active on the front line with his first two career varsity goals, scoring during the sixth minute off of a pass from Longanecker, who tallied his first two assists of the year in the contest, and during the 49th minute off a dish from sophomore Gus Penrose that boosted the Bulldogs' advantage to seven goals.

Sophomore Dixon Reed scored his first career varsity goal off a pass from junior Knox Williams during the 18th minute, as did sophomore Hugo GilRuiz on a penalty kick during the 32nd minute.

Sandpoint outshot Post Falls 23 to 3.

"Congrats to Wesley, Dixon, and Hugo on their first varsity goals," coach Anderson said. "It was good to see Huxley get off the mark and net his first hat trick of the season. Overall, I felt good about the team performance that we put in, but definitely some work to do on staying focused in games and keeping our eye on the ball even when we're ahead. Happy with the day and how the boys approached the game."

Junior goalkeeper Landon Brinkmeier had one save in between the posts for Sandpoint (2-0), which hosts Bonners Ferry for their first home game of the season on Thursday.
