PREP GIRLS SOCCER: Ratigan's pair helps Lady Bulldogs to first win

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 26, 2025 4:45 PM

SANDPOINT — Bayah Ratigan is back and better than ever.

The Sandpoint High junior, after missing the majority of last season due to injury, tallied her first two goals of the season on Monday night in a five-goal 6A/5A Inland Empire League win over the Lady Trojans.

Senior Hope Barnes got on the board with her first goal of the season, as did senior Ava Glahe and junior Izzy Stark, who was relieved of her goalkeeping duties after the Lady Bulldogs raised a sizable lead.

"It was nice to have Ava back, she played 20 minutes after returning from an ACL injury and was able to score off a free kick — it will be nice getting her back into the swing of things," Sandpoint High head coach Alan Brinkmeier said.

Freshmen Coco Filtzer rounded out the night's scoring with her first career varsity goal in what was a solid rebound performance for Sandpoint.

"It took us a little bit to get on the board, going into the half leading just 1-0," coach Brinkmeier said. "Our goal was to get four or five more goals and the shutout — we didn't get the shutout, but I think this game gave the girls their confidence back. We controlled the midfield and moved off the ball well."

Sandpoint (1-2) returns to action on Tuesday for a 5A Inland Empire League home game against Moscow.
