COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department shared an update Thursday as fire engineer Dave Tysdal continues to recover from injuries sustained during the June 29 shooting on Canfield Mountain.
Though Tysdal is still unable to move his legs, CDAFD wrote in a social media post, "his gunshot wound, clavicle, lungs, and arm strength are getting better and better each day."
CDAFD also thanked the community and people across the country for their continued support on behalf of the Tysdal family.
Tysdal was transported to a specialty rehab facility out of state July 15 after initially being hospitalized at Kootenai Health for "severe" injuries related to the gunshot wound he sustained June 29. Battalion chiefs Frank Harwood and John Morrison both lost their lives in the "ambush-style" attack.
CDAFD has previously credited Tysdal with “helping save the lives of fellow first responders by warning them to stay out of the area after he was shot.”

A sepia-toned photograph of about 30 businessmen hangs in the office of Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber’s President and CEO, Linda Coppess. Though dressed in the fashion of decades past, the men gathered for a purpose that has endured: uplifting area businesses through the Chamber. The photo is a reminder of the Chamber’s 114 years of history, Coppess said in her address to nearly 200 attendees at Tuesday morning’s Breakfast Connect event.
