Last season: 14-9-1, second in 4A Intermountain

Coaches: Paul Bonnell (head coach), Brycen Lunger (assistant coach), Derek Oxford (assistant coach), Matt Solis (assistant coach)

Key returners: Lincoln Hymas, MF, sr.; Peyton Hinthorn, D, jr.; Logan Archibald, D, sr.; Ben Middleton, STRK, jr.

Key newcomers: Josh Warner, STRK, so.; Gabriel Litterell, STRK, so.

Outlook: As a freshman last season, Josh Warner scored seven points, through two games of his sophomore campaign, he has scored eight. Warner has been key to Badgers’ 2-0 start to the season, and the team will need him to continue his hot streak to keep them on pace to improve upon last season.

That won’t be an easy feat, the 2024 Badger’s squad rolled through most of their schedule and came a goal away from winning the consolation side of the 4A state tournament. In addition to high expectations, they lost five seniors, but head coach Paul Bonnell said they’ll have the youth to reload, instead of rebuilding.

The strength of the Badgers team lies in the midfield, with the ball being filtered through one of the team’s two seniors and team captain Lincoln Hymas. His play has allowed the young strikers like Warner and Gabriel Litterell to capitalize on opportunities and push the ball past defenders.

The team’s other captain, Peyton Hinthorn, anchors the Badgers’ defensively alongside Logan Archibald, who found the back of the net for the first time in 2025 against Timberlake. Those two provide much needed support for the team’s goalkeepers, Cardon Pluid and Kordale Burt, who have been rotating to begin the season.

Bonners Ferry isn’t scheduled to play most of the opponents that beat them last year with their toughest challenge coming from the in-division team, Coeur d’Alene Academy. That sets the table for an exciting year of Badgers’ boys' soccer, if they continue to play at the level they’ve shown in the first two games.

Coach’s comments:

“We’ve been exploring different options formationally, offense and defense, players in different places. We made some adjustments before the Stillwater game on Saturday, and things went well... and felt like we were more cohesive as a team.” - Coach Paul Bonnell

“First state game against Teton, they beat us 1-0, but we played well... that’s what we tried to focus on going into that second game and we did end up winning that. It’s trying to imprint on the team, that hard work and teamwork mentality” - Coach Paul Bonnell

“We have a lot of different experience levels and personalities, and already it seems like people are learning how to adapt and work together.” Coach Paul Bonnell
