Knapp announces candidacy in Kootenai County assessor race

COEUR d’ALENE — Allyson Knapp has announced her candidacy for the office of Kootenai County assessor.

Knapp, who previously worked in the assessor’s office as chief deputy assessor, said she’ll run in the May 19 Republican primary election, challenging Kootenai County Assessor Bèla Kovacs. 

“I was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, and this community is home,” Knapp said in a news release. “I’m running for Assessor because taxpayers deserve accountability, fairness and professionalism in how property values are determined. This office isn’t about politics — it’s about accuracy, transparency and serving the people of Kootenai County with integrity.” 

Knapp has 30 years of experience as a certified appraiser and 15 years of experience as a Realtor, according to a news release. 

In her past role as chief deputy assessor, Knapp said she led a team of 72 employees across multiple divisions within the assessor’s office, working to ensure “fair, accurate and transparent assessments for county residents.” 

“A fiscal conservative, Knapp believes taxpayer dollars must be used wisely and efficiently, with a focus on eliminating waste and ensuring strong stewardship of public resources,” a news release said. 

If elected, Knapp said she’ll prioritize fair and accurate assessments, efficiency and accountability and “restoring trust in the assessor’s office by putting residents first, not politics.”
