100 Years Ago

Fully 75 percent of the tourists passing through North Idaho at the present time are Canadian families, either on their way home from a visit to Vancouver and Victoria, B.C., or southbound for a trip into the states, according to A.C. Mayfield, caretaker at the local tourist park. Practically all tourists remark on the fine accommodations at the local park, where shower baths, kitchen service and ample parking room are afforded for the nominal fee of 50 cents for those who remain all night.

Ernest Peters, who has been on forest patrol duty the past six weeks, returned to town Tuesday and after a visit to the barber shop, was recognized by his friends. During the six weeks in the woods he had some unusual experiences, one of the most thrilling being a fight at midnight with a huge lynx.

J.F. McGlocklin had his left hand cut and suffered severe bruises about the body yesterday morning when he was struck by a rim and tire, the tire blowing out as he was making a change at the City Garage.

Charles O. Malone was pleasantly surprised in Portland when he was named "Distinguished 1973-74 Kiwanis Club President."
