COLUMBIA BASIN — The days are cooling off — well, maybe a little — and the kids are back in school, which means fall is just around the corner. Here are some things to do to help you recover from the summer.  


Aug. 28 


Busted Stuff

Free Kids’ Movie: ‘Lilo & Stitch Live Action Movie’ 

Live action reimagining of Disney's 2002 classic movie Lilo & Stitch. The wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family. Rated PG. Feel free to bring snacks to nibble on while watching the movie, just clean up after yourself before you leave. Car Show on the Green

Producers Gone Wild 

Get ready to experience the wild side of barrel racing. Brace yourself for the exhilarating chaos as top-tier riders and their fearless horses tear up the arena in one of the most electrifying barrel races of the year. Aug. 30 


Polka Dot Park-In Car Show

Ritzville Community Parade

Aug. 31 


Pirates of Camas Cove Regatta 

A flotilla of fun! Build your own boat and race around the course off the dock at Camas Cove Cellars. The Seven C’s Pirate Band will provide music. Sept. 4 


Battle of the Badges 

The Moses Lake Police Department takes on the Grant County Sheriff's Office in a charity softball game, with children’s activities and raffles on the side. All proceeds support MLPD Community Outreach program. Tailgate at 5 p.m., first pitch at 6:30 p.m. at Larson Baseball Field, 2501 W. Broadway Ave., Moses Lake. Info: 509-764-3887. 


Sept. 5 


Walk, Beer, Flock Cancer 0.5K! 

Join Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation for a half-kilometer walk, run, skip, roll or stroll along the park trail by Moses Lake, then rest after the exhausting workout with cold beer or soft drinks. Dueling Pianos: Felix and Fingers 

Two talented pianists go head-to-head in a friendly competition, delivering an unforgettable live music experience. This isn’t your average night out; expect singing, comedy and a rowdy good time. Tickets $30 per person, which includes an appetizer buffet and access to the private patio and bar. Must be 21 or older. Live music with Mitch McVicker 

Contemporary Christian musician Mitch McVicker has 13 full-length albums and won a 1999 GMA Dove Award for the song “My Deliverer,” co-written with the late Rich Mullins. His quirky and inventive approach includes insightful song lyrics, unconventional instruments, and profound storytelling to connect the everyday with the otherworldly. Sept. 6 


Concealed Carry Class 

This four-hour comprehensive training course is designed to educate individuals on the laws and regulations surrounding the carrying of concealed firearms. This class covers essential topics such as the use of force, firearms safety and the proper handling and storage of firearms, as well as the specific laws and any requirements for obtaining permits in Washington, Oregon and Arizona. Upon completion of the class, attendees will be eligible to apply for the above-mentioned permits and will also receive a WA — HB-1143 Gun Safety Certificate. Cost is $74.99. Othello Fair 

Four-day county fair featuring parade, carnival, food and craft booths, livestock exhibits and more. This year’s theme is “Sunflower Yields & Scarecrow Fields.” Info: www.othellofair.org. 


Sept. 12 


‘Don Nutt: A Tortured Land’ 

Opening of exhibition by Coulee City artist Don Nutt. Nutt’s oil paintings capture the spirit of the Grant County and its landscape, people and creatures. Sept. 13 


Farmer Consumer Awareness Day 

Farmer Consumer Awareness Day is a day for farmers to show how food is produced, and for consumers to learn. The festival includes a parade, farm equipment display, quilt show, vendors, tours, fun run, car show and more. 9 a.m. at Quincy Middle School, 16 Sixth Ave. SE, Quincy. Info: www.quincyfcad.org. 


Hartline Community Days

Art on Third  

See local artists and their works gathered in downtown Moses Lake. Sip & Stroll Moses Lake

Care Fair

Friends of the Moses Lake Library Book Sale

Wototo Children’s Choir

Royal Drill Team Golf Scramble

Autism Acceptance Day

Bingo fundraiser 

$5 suggested donation to play. Bring a canned food item to make chili – kidney beans, chili beans, canned tomatoes, chili seasoning and so on – and get an extra raffle basket ticket for some fun prizes Proceeds support Care Moses Lake. Mug Design Workshop 

Not super crafty but want to make something fun? This workshop is for you. Learn a simple, repeatable process to create your own custom festive mug. All the supplies are provided and there are all different shapes and sizes of mugs to choose from — just bring yourself and your creativity. Introduction to the Indigenous Art Form of Beading 

Local indigenous artist Amanda Keewatinawin will host a workshop on the indigenous art form of beading and how to create your own beaded fringe earrings. Hand-curated kits and instructions will be provided for each participant along with a brief history of indigenous beadwork. Ages 18 and older. 5:30-8 p.m. at the Moses Lake Public Library, 418 E. Sept. 27 


Serve for Service Pickleball Tournament 

This coed doubles tournament is open to players 18 and older, with prizes for the top five teams and surprise raffle drawings. All proceeds go to Quincy Rotary’s community programs including youth scholarships, Christmas light displays and local service projects. $60 per team; registration closes Sept. 20. Safe Sitter with Intro to CPR 

Safe Sitter is for young teens in grades 6-8 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children. This instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use manikins to practice rescue skills like choking rescue and CPR. In addition, Safe Sitter teaches young teens life and business skills so that they know how to be prepared, be responsible and be considerate whether they are babysitting or doing odd jobs for family, friends, or neighbors. 9 a.m. at Heart Matters Education Group, 341 Basin St. NW, Ephrata. White Trail Grange Car Show 

Free fun for the whole family. Check out classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors. Grange youth will sell root beer floats and Italian sodas, and Tacos El tapatio will serve up food. A heavy yard art tractor will be raffled off. Bulb Your Enthusiasm! 

Want a garden that bursts into color next spring? The secret starts underground. This lighthearted, hands-on workshop teaches the simple art of planting bulbs that reward you with tulips, daffodils and other dazzling blooms year after year. UMANI Festival  

UMANI is a major community-wide collaboration between individuals and many of the largest cultural institutions in our area to celebrate our community’s Hispanic heritage. Free activities include access to a low rider car show, music, barbers, artists, creative workshops, crafts and games for families, resource booths, vendors, food trucks and lucha wrestling. 12-6 p.m. at Sinkiuse Square, 216 W. Make Your Own Board Game 

Families are invited to come make the board game of their dreams. The only limits are your imagination and the size of the board.
