Burnett announces candidacy for Lakeland school board

Allison Burnett announced her candidacy this week for Lakeland Joint School District 272 School Board, Zone 5.

“As a parent of three children attending Lakeland schools, I am deeply invested in the future of our district,” Burnett said in a news release. “I want to ensure our schools remain safe, our resources are used responsibly and that every child has the opportunity to succeed.”    

Born and raised in Longview, Wash., Burnett said the small-town values of hard work, community and looking out for one’s neighbors were ingrained in her. 

Burnett graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in communications. She became director of operations for Madison Holdings, a company with nine restaurants and more than 350 employees. When her husband’s employer transferred him to Idaho, Burnett said the family was drawn to the Lakeland Joint School District because it reflected the small-town values she grew up with. 

Burnett has lived in Hauser with her family for more than 10 years. She and her husband own Embers by the Lake in Hauser and Embers by the Green in Post Falls. The restaurants employ more than 80 people, according to a news release. 

Burnett said her priorities for Lakeland schools include safe and secure schools, responsible fiscal stewardship, academic excellence and listening to parents, families and community members to strengthen trust and collaboration. 

“I believe strong schools are the heart of a strong community,” Burnett said in a news release. “Together, we can ensure Lakeland remains a place where families thrive and students are prepared for bright futures.”
