PREP BOYS SOCCER: Sandpoint captures fourth straight with 7-1 win over Stillwater

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 29, 2025 11:00 PM
Sandpoint 7, Stillwater Christian 1
SANDPOINT — Six different players found the back of the net as the host Bulldogs trounced the Cougars for their fourth straight win Friday night in a non-league match at War Memorial Field.
Senior Huxley Hall, after a pass from freshman Wesley Drube, made his way into the box and drilled a close-range shot that put Sandpoint on the board first during the 20th minute. An own goal by Stillwater Christian three minutes later gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage, and they ran with the contest from there.
During the 30th minute, Hall sent a cross to senior Jack Treman, who eventually fired in his first goal of the season. Sophomore Alvaro Santos then extended the lead to four goals during the 32nd minute, once again assisted by Hall.
Two minutes into the second half, sophomore Hugo GilRuiz jumped on a pass from sophomore Dixon Reed and put it into the back of the net. During the 55th minute, senior Logan McGrann showed off his foot strength by scoring on free kick from about 10 yards outside the box, burying it into the top right-hand corner of the net to make it a 6-0 game.
After conceding a goal in the 63rd minute, senior Travis Morgan closed things out during the 70th minute with his first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Blake McGrann — his first career varsity assist.
"Stillwater is a physical team and I thought we dealt with that well," Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said. "They also employed a low block, which we at first struggled to break down, but began moving the ball quicker and moved off the ball to create space for ourselves and teammates. Ultimately, we were rewarded for it."
Freshman goalkeeper Tate Gilman played in the second half and recorded four saves for Sandpoint (4-0), which will look to remain undefeated when they host Moscow Tuesday for their first 5A Inland Empire League match.
