POST FALLS — Senior midfielder Cade Pittman waited for his moment and made it count.

Twice.

Pittman scored on a pair of shots from outside the penalty box as the Lakeland Hawks defeated the Post Falls Trojans 3-1 in a 5A Inland Empire League game on Thursday at Post Falls High.

“Cade really stepped up today,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. “Both of his shots were tough shots, but he had an opening and just hit them. I thought the boys responded well from a tough opener against Coeur d’Alene (Tuesday) and played really well. We worked on being organized and did a good job.”

Lakeland (1-1, 1-0 5A IEL) hosts Lewiston next Thursday.

Hudson Ryan scored in the 55th minute for Post Falls (0-2, 0-2 5A IEL), which hosts Lake City on Tuesday.

PONDERAY — Senior Adysen Robinson had six saves for the Panthers in a shutout of the Bulldogs JV at the Field of Dreams Recreation Complex.

Sofia Peppin scored in the first half and Riley Greene scored on a free kick in the second half for Coeur d’Alene Charter, which opened with a win at Priest River on Tuesday.

“We had a faster paced game and stronger and more knowledgeable players than our first game, but the girls were able to defend well and put together a string of passes when it counted,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “Sofia’s poise in the box led to an early goal and then we weathered some pressure in our defensive third for quite a bit of the first half. Overall, I’m very pleased with how the girls have played at this point in the season.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (2-0-0) is scheduled to face Timberlake at The Fields in Post Falls on Wednesday.
