LEWISTON — Senior Jace Ostlund, in his first varsity start at quarterback, passed for one touchdown and ran for another, and the Post Falls Trojans jumped out to a three-touchdown lead en route to a 37-27 victory over the Lewiston Bengals in Post Falls’ season opener Friday night at the P1FCU Sports Complex at Lewiston High.

“Offensively, we didn’t turn the ball over, and had good ball security,” Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett said. “Jace ran around and took care of the ball.”

Connor Carver caught a touchdown pass, Marshall Tomlinson and Brandon Felix each ran for TDs, and Bradyn Singleton kicked a 40-yard field goal for Post Falls.

Leading 14-0 early in the second quarter, Post Falls pinned Lewiston (0-2) on its 8-yard line after the kickoff.

On the next play, the Bengals fumbled a handoff, Makya Quincey picked up the football and ran it in from 4 yards out for a 20-0 lead.

Post Falls led 37-13 midway through the fourth quarter. Kodyn Foreman’s interception early in the third quarter led to Felix’s TD run.

“Early on, our defense created some turnovers and gave our offense some short fields,” Bennett said. "The last six minutes we got a little sloppy.”

Bennett praised the play of defensive linemen Cruze Woydziak Marcus Sanchez and Benedict Bresee.

Post Falls travels to Sandpoint (2-0) next Friday.

GRANGEVILLE — Billy Vallieres scored on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Ryker Brennan to cut the deficit to 14-12 for the Tigers, who fell to the Bulldogs in a nonleague game at Grangeville High.

“It was a good, hard fought game,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “Grangeville just made more plays than we did and cashed in on a few more plays than we did.”

Brennan threw for 82 yards and ran for 73 and two scores for Timberlake (0-2), which hosts West Valley of Spokane next Friday.

“All coaches want to see the biggest improvement in their team from Week 1 to Week 2,” Amos said. “And we got that tonight. We made some good progress and were able to run the ball a little more tonight. Our offensive line is starting to mesh. We just need to continue to grow and get better each game. It’s all about us getting better each week.”

Grangeville (2-0) travels to Priest River for a Central Idaho League game next Friday.
