Although snow dustings have been seen in North Idaho, the weather so far has been a bit too warm to give snowflakes the staying power to accumulate.
That changed Monday.
Two inches of snow fell by late evening, covering Coeur d'Alene with a layer of white for the first time this season, and more is expected today and later this week, according to the National Weather Service's Spokane office.
Snow totals were likely to accumulate between about a half inch to more than 2 inches in the Panhandle, according to Meteorologist Miranda Coté.
Temperatures were in the high 20s.
“The potential for it to stick to the roads will be higher,” Coté said.
From Wednesday into Thursday, there is a good chance of snow mixed with rain, and Friday could see up to 5 inches of snow, with more falling in the mountains.
“It’ll start off as mostly snow and then it’ll be warming up a little bit for some rain mixing in for the lowlands,” Coté said. “The mountains could have heavier snow, with 4 to 8 inches heading toward Lookout Pass.”
