EPHRATA — The Columbia Basin Herald and the Ephrata School District will once again host the “We are Ephrata” Town Hall on Dec. 10 at the Ephrata High School Performing Arts Center.

“It’s important for the community to be engaged and aware in what is happening at the local level and how the city interacts with its neighbors, the county and other partners in the area,” said Columbia Basin Herald Managing Editor R. Hans Miller, who is set to emcee the event.

The event will begin at 5:15 p.m. with booths in the main foyer outside of the theater at the PAC. Presentations from a variety of local and countywide agencies will begin at 6 p.m., including the Ephrata School District, city of Ephrata, Port of Ephrata and Columbia Basin Hospital at the hyperlocal level. On the county front, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Public Utility District, Economic Development Council, commissioners and others have been invited to attend. GCSO and the EDC have confirmed attendance and an update will be provided as the other county agencies confirm.

Informational booths will include the Ephrata Public Library, multiple presenters and local nonprofits. Any organization wishing to set up a booth can contact Miller at [email protected].

This is the second year the town hall has been held. The event will focus on the projects completed over the last year by the respective organizations on stage, as well as what projects are coming up. Topics include the completion of the Grant County Jail, upgrades at the Port of Ephrata and others that have an impact not just locally, but countywide.

There is no need to RSVP to the event and it is open to the public and free of charge. For those who cannot make it, coverage of the event will be included in the paper.

Port of Ephrata Executive Director David Lanman discusses improvements to the facilities at the Port of Ephrata during last year's town hall. Lanman, port commissioners and staff have been working to expand the port's capability to support the city's economy since Lanman began at the port a few years ago.
