ALL-STATE SOCCER: Five locals grab prestigious honors

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 3, 2025 1:00 AM

Sandpoint High junior goalkeeper Landon Brinkmeier and senior defender Cecilia Dignan-Omodt were both named to the 5A First Team as the All-State high school boys and girls soccer teams were announced recently by The Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise.

Brinkmeier, receiving such honors for the first time in his career, helped the boys to a 14-5-2 record, including seven shutouts, and to their sixth straight 5A District 1-2 title. He had 23 saves at the 5A state tournament and propelled the Bulldogs to their first state playoff win since 2023, when Sandpoint reached the state championship.

Dignan-Omodt, receiving such honors for the third straight year, led the Lady Bulldogs to a 7-10-1 record, including three shutouts, and to their fourth straight 5A District 1-2 title. She has been consistently praised by both her own and opposing coaches for her stellar play over the last four years.

Sandpoint High senior midfielder Logan McGrann and senior defender Caiden Gion both received All-State Second Team honors for the first time in their careers. McGrann led an offense that tallied 70 goals (3.33 goals per game) scored while Gion manned a strong back line that conceded just 22 goals on the year.

Bonners Ferry High senior midfielder Alexys Mierke was named to the 4A All-State Second Team. She helped orchestrate the Lady Badgers to a 7-8 record and a 2.47 goals per game average this season.

Coaches in each classification nominate players and vote for the all-state teams. The Idaho Statesman hosts the voting process and publishes the results.
