Former Idaho football coach Eck named Mountain West Coach of the Year

New Mexico football coach Jason Eck, head coach at Idaho the past three seasons, was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year as the all-conference football teams were announced.

His son, linebacker Jaxton Eck, was named the Mountain West Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Eck played for his dad last year at Idaho.

Along with Eck and Eck, other major awards went to Anthony Colandrea of UNLV for Offensive Player of the Year, Kansei Matsuzawa of Hawai’i as Special Teams Player of the Year, Chris Johnson of San Diego State as Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and Micah Alejedo of Hawai’i as Freshman of the Year.

Two other former Idaho Vandals, now at New Mexico, earned all-conference honors.

Defensive end Keyshawn James-Newby was named to the first team, as was Eck, and offensive lineman Kaden Robnett was named to the second team.

Boise State placed eight players on the 2025 All-Mountain West teams.

Offensive linemen Kage Casey and Mason Randolph were named to the first team, as were safety Ty Benefield and corner A’Marion McCoy.

Running back Dylan Riley, defensive lineman Braxton Fely, EDGE Jayden Virgin-Morgan and cornerback Jeremiah Earby were recognized on the second team.

Offensive lineman Roger Carreon, punter Oscar Doyle and tight end Matt Lauter garnered honorable mention.

Nevada senior defensive back Murvin Kenion III, another former Idaho Vandal, was named to the second team.
