SPOKANE — Trailing on the road in its season opener, Lake City didn’t panic.
Instead, the Timberwolves just pressed.
Junior Jordan Carlson had 24 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots for the Timberwolves, who rallied from a 15-point deficit early in the fourth quarter to beat the Mead Panthers 74-69 on Tuesday night.
“It was a total team effort,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “Jordan was awesome and hit a big 3-pointer to get us within two points. Ian Williams had a big steal and Paxton Winey had a layup with 40 seconds to give us our first lead. We just had a lot of good team plays at the end that made it happen.”
Mead, which shot 10 of 14 from the 3-point line in the first half, led 44-33 at halftime.
“We went to a full-court press in the fourth quarter and that kind of threw them off,” Anderson said. “From that, we started to stack possessions and got back into the game.”
Senior Josh Watson had 10 points for Lake City before fouling out in the third quarter.
“We’ve got a lot of depth this year, and it was tested a little bit,” Anderson said. “The guys we brought in played for one common goal. Getting a win like this with our lineups all mixed up was really huge.”
Karson Maze scored 21 points for Mead (1-1).
Lake City travels to Mt. Spokane tonight.

PASCO, Wash. — The visiting Trojans led at halftime, but the Riverhawks took the lead late in the third quarter and held a slim lead the rest of the way in the season opener for both teams.
“It was back and forth, and exactly what we needed for a first game,” said first-year Post Falls head coach Jayson Ulrich, who coached the Trojan junior varsity the past three years after coaching for 21 seasons at Lewiston High. “Chiawana was physical and took us a while to match that. We won the rebounding battle by 20, but we had 26 turnovers, and they scored 26 points off our turnovers.”
Junior Cashton Bodman scored 22 points, senior Jaxon Lysne 16 for Post Falls. Bodman hit a 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to give the Trojans a 30-29 lead at intermission.
“Cashton and Jaxon each had a phenomenal game, scoring wise,” Ulrich said. “Alex Dean flew around and made things happen. Connor Carver went against a load of a post player, and he did well.”
Benji Larios scored 18 points for Chiawana, which returned all five starters from a team that lost to eventual champion Gonzaga Prep in the state 4A semifinals last year.
