Full caption: Sandpoint's Arah Stevens recently committed to continue her softball career at Olympic College (NWAC) in Bremerton, Wash. Stevens, a third baseman and catcher, joined the Lady Bulldogs' squad as a junior and immediately made an impact, garnering 5A All-Inland Empire League honors. The standout senior, who is gearing up for a big season ahead, tallied a team-high .388 batting average and .457 on-base percentage to go along with a team-high 26 hits, including eight doubles, a triple, two home runs, 10 walks, 21 RBI, 13 runs scored and a stolen base across 81 at-bats and 23 games played last season. On defense, Stevens, also a key member of The North 18U travel softball team, boasted a .828 fielding percentage as she tallied 56 total putouts. She'll be joining a Lady Rangers team that went 24-26 overall and 18-14 in conference play a year ago. "She'll bring some stability and leadership — she works well with others — and she just works hard on her own," Sandpoint High head coach Leah Platt said of what Stevens brings to the table for a collegiate program. "She's solid behind the plate and at third base, but can really play any position. Behind the plate, she has a calm demeanor and has the ability to work with every pitcher. Her hitting will certainly be what keeps her in the lineup. From what we've seen this past season and this summer, she can really put the ball in play."
