M.D. FUNDRAISER BEGUN
The Sandpoint Fire Department Wednesday distributed over 200 muscular dystrophy Roll-A-Coin collection canisters to outlets in the city to help the Jerry Lewis Telethon raise money for research on the crippling disease. Roll-A-Coin is an enjoyable way to donate money. The person puts a coin at one end of the tube and attempts to roll it down the railing and out the other end. If the coin doesn’t roll all of the way through, it becomes a contribution.

SANDPOINT GIRLS WIN TWO
The SHS girls got their basketball season off to a rollicking start last night with two convincing home victories over St. Maries. Gary Elliot’s junior varsity cagers notched the first win in a low-scoring defensive battle, 14-9. Becky Marineau, Jackie Woodland and Debbie Dockins led the jayvee scoring attack. In the varsity game, Michelle Bopp and Kathy Crandall led Bob Hamilton’s crew to a resounding 53-30 win, with 16 and 17 points respectively. Pam Bradetich added 8 as the SHS team strongly outrebounded the St. Maries team.

AUTHORITY GIVEN TO USE NEW HOSPITAL
The new Bonner General hospital was inspected this week by a representative of the state hospital board, who authorized the use of the new structure. James Breinich, chairman of the hospital board, said it is still not possible to set a date for dedicating the new hospital and moving from the old Community hospital building. Plasterers will soon finish their work; all other finishing should be done in 10 days.

WANTS SPAWNING GROUNDS PROTECTED
Idaho Fish and Game has filed proposals to protect spawning grounds in the Clark Fork river when Cabinet dam is built. “The main spawning run of fish of all species is up the Clark Fork. We cannot afford to lose valuable spawning grounds and have asked the federal power commission to regulate the river’s flow so fish can spawn and grow between the lake and the dam,” said the agency’s director.
