The city of Coeur d'Alene has received three eligible applications for Seat 3 on the City Council that comes open soon, with more expected.

Logan Anderson, Rob Knutson and Tonya Coppedge applied for the post being left by City Councilor Dan Gookin, who will move into the mayor's office after being elected in the General Election in November.

In their applications, the candidates offered why they want to be a council member.

"City Council is the most local tier of representative government in the United States and I believe that my professional (and community) background would be unique asset to the council in the representation of citizens in city affair," wrote Knutson, a consulting scientist and regulatory specialist.

He said he has been involved with the Coeur d'Alene Regional Chamber, Coeur d'Alene Sons of Norway and was a neighborhood watch captain.

Coppedge, a healthcare operations professional, wrote that she is "committed to fact-based decision-making, transparent governance, and reducing polarization at the local level. Coeur d'Alene is growing and changing, and it is important that we guide that growth responsibly while preserving the character and stability that make this city a place where families can thrive."

Coppedge has participated in Coeur d'Alene School District events and youth activities, worked on community healthcare support with Heritage Health and worked on federally funded projects, including remodeling homes for low-income and disabled residents.

Anderson, an engineer, is a veteran and small business owner. For community involvement, he said he has participated in food drives.

"I believe my interests and ideals would very closely match those of our average CDA resident," he wrote. "I would love to help maintain CDA as the wonderful city we all want to live in."

The person appointed will serve the remainder of the council term until Jan. 4, 2028.

Qualifications include being at least 18 years of age; primary residence within the city of Coeur d’Alene; registered to vote; and a resident of the city for at least 30 days prior to submitting their application. Experience serving on commissions, community involvement and volunteering are also considered in the selection process.

City Council members receive $15,000 a year plus benefits.

Applications, available through City Hall, are due Dec. 15 and should be submitted to the city clerk or by email at [email protected].
