The Bonners Ferry Community Orchestra will present its annual Christmas concert, “The Heart of Christmas,” on Sunday, Dec. 7, at Becker Auditorium. The free, family-friendly performance is expected to draw a full house, with last year’s event reaching standing-room-only by the 3 p.m. start time.

Organizers say the orchestra has grown to 45 musicians, ranging in age from 12 to mid-80s, contributing to both a fuller sound and wider community interest. This year’s performance also includes a 28-member youth choir which will join the orchestra for four selections. The choir is directed by Rhianna Wright.

The concert will feature a sing-along portion of the evening. Audience members will receive sheet music at the door and are invited to join in several choruses. Vocalists performing on stage include Len Pine, Frank Wright IV, Van Stonehocker, Eric Lindenbusch, Rachel Spiller, Ali Kerns, Tatiana Dewberry and Claudia Moots.

A wide range of seasonal music is planned, from “Little Drummer Boy” and “A Christmas Jig” to traditional carols. The program also includes a narrated presentation of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” read by Pine.

“We believe music is a divine gift that touches the soul,” said Glenda Novinger, BFCO conductor. “When we share our gift with you, it brings us immense joy and a sense of purpose.  This time of year, many people want a reason to celebrate but are weighed down with real-life struggles. This Dec. 7 concert will bring hope, peace and beauty into the life of every member of the audience.”

The concert is free to the public. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Bonners Ferry Community Orchestra relies on donations to support its performances.
