SPOKANE— Junior Peyton Hinthorn scored 28 points, junior Ty Shrock scored 25 and the Badgers beat the East Valley Knights by a comfortable margin of 76-60 to move to 1-1 on the season. Bonners Ferry plays next at Lakeland on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
It was a career high in points for the pair, who combined to score almost 70% of the team’s total score.
The Badgers outscored or tied East Valley in each quarter. Immediately, the game was in Bonners Ferry’s control, as they jumped out to a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the score was 38-27. The third quarter was the highest scoring for the Badgers who scored 21 points to lead 59-43 after three quarters.
Head Coach Greg Kissee reflected on the team’s performance.
“The first game, we were a little nervous starting out,” Kissee said. “I knew East Valley would be tough. They have a lot of good guards and shot the ball well, but we picked it up on defense and rebounded the ball well. I thought we ran the floor very well.”
Senior Sulay Abubakari chipped in with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Junior Jameson Kissee put up 7 points.
Kissee outlined what the Badgers will aim to do as they prepare for Lakeland.
“Lakeland’s a tough team,” Kissee said. “They’ve got some players back from last year, they’re well coached. We’re just hoping to start out fast like we did in this one, play good defense. I think we match up well with them.”
