LOCAL WATCH: Thielbahr named to United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Third Team

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 5, 2025 5:30 PM
Emma Thielbahr, University of Denver Soccer
A 2022 graduate of IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) who also played soccer for Sandpoint High, Emma, a 5-foot-11-inch redshirt junior defender, was recently named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's All-West Region Third Team, announced Wednesday by the association.
Thielbahr, who was also named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year, All-Summit League First Team, and to the Summit League All-Tournament Team, put together quite the season for the Lady Pioneers, which had three players named to the list in total after finishing with a record of 9-5-4.
This past season, Thielbahr, who originally started her career at the University of San Diego, tallied four goals, two assists, 20 shots, eight of which were on goal, across 18 starts and 1,589 minutes played. She had her first career multi-goal game when she found nylon twice, including the game-winner, in a 2-1 win against nationally-ranked Colorado State. She also scored a goal in Denver's 4-1 win over Southern Utah and the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Summit League rival North Dakota State.
For the second year in a row, she started in every match for Denver and played the full 90 minutes in all but one match. For her career, the former Lady Bulldog standout has now seen 3,287 minutes of action across 37 consecutive starts. Her accolades this season are in addition to her awards a year ago, which included being named to the Summit League All-Newcomer Team and the Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week — an award she also garnered this season for her game-winning goal against the Lady Bison.
