PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Balanced Vikings bounce back on Meridian

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Brookeslee Colvin led a balanced Coeur d’Alene offensive attack with 20 points, leading the Vikings past the visiting Meridian Warriors 67-37 at Viking Court on Friday. 

Junior Kyndal Bridge scored 19 points and sophomore Lexie Wheeler added 17 points for Coeur d’Alene (5-1), which hosts Rocky Mountain of Meridian today at noon. 

Sophomore MK Puello scored 15 points for Meridian (2-3), which travels to Post Falls today at noon.

COEUR d’ALENE — The visiting Grizzlies of Meridian jumped out to a 29-16 halftime lead to down the Timberwolves at Lake City High. 

“They were really good defensively,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “They played with a lot of speed and were aggressive. We played much better in the second half, but they were just a little quicker and able to get some shots against our defense.” 

Junior point guard Ella Pearson scored 15 points for Lake City (0-6). 

“Ella’s been doing a great job of scoring for us,” Pratt said. “She kind of got pressed into playing point guard and learning on the fly on how to run the offense and direct players on where to go. She’s learning to run things and we need it. I’m really proud of her.” 

Junior Liv Sangsland scored 12 points for Rocky Mountain (6-0), which faces Coeur d’Alene today at noon. 

Lake City hosts Eagle today at noon.

POST FALLS — The host Trojans dropped to 0-8 on the season, falling to the Mustangs (5-0) at The Arena. 

Junior Berkley Jones scored 37 points for the Mustangs, who beat Coeur d’Alene 75-56 on Thursday in Coeur d’Alene. 

“She had one of the better performances I’ve seen,” said Post Falls coach Brian Carlson of Jones. “They’re physical, strong and compete. They’re a really good team and we just didn’t raise to their intensity level in the first half. I was pleased with how we competed in the third quarter and we played as hard as we could. But if you show up not ready to play against a team like Eagle, it’s going to get ugly quick.” 

Junior Brooklyn Reese scored nine points for Post Falls, which hosts Meridian today at noon. 

Eagle travels to Lake City today at noon.

PLUMMER — Senior Kyleigh Wolfe scored 23 points, sophomore Laila SiJohn added 15 points for the Knights in a win over the Redskins at Ron Miller Court. 

“It was a good little bounce back from last night,” said Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman, whose team fell to 4A Timberlake 46-26 on Thursday in Plummer. “We shot the ball much better tonight. We missed a lot of good looks, but Timberlake had something to do with that as well. But tonight we played well. Our defense turned into offense and everyone played really well.” 

Lakeside (4-1) travels to Timberlake next Thursday.

POST FALLS — Senior Chelsey Cate had 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Royals in a Mountain Christian League win over the Knights at The Courts at Real Life. 

Senior Sydney Ellis had seven points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals for North Idaho Christian (1-4, 1-1 MCL), which faces the Spokane Athletic Co-Op on Tuesday at The Courts at Real Life.
