Teresa Mallery, a financial professional with nearly 20 years of service in the Kootenai County Treasurer’s Office, on Thursday announced her campaign for Kootenai County treasurer.

Since 2014, under the leadership of Treasurer Steve Matheson, the Treasurer's Office has been defined by professional standards, strong internal controls and conservative financial management, a press release said.

"Mallery has been integral to this success, and her experience spans the full scope of the office’s responsibilities: overseeing tax statements, dramatically improving payment systems, and enforcing strong internal controls," the release said. "Mallery's campaign directly appeals to the core values that unify all voters: fiscal responsibility, unwavering accuracy, and predictable management. Her message is designed to appeal to County residents who want a Treasurer focused on professionalism, not politics."

Mallery said she is stepping forward to run for Kootenai County treasurer because she believes in responsible stewardship and transparent leadership. She said she believes that strong counties are built on stable financial foundations.

"She has seen firsthand what strong, principled financial management looks like and is committed to continuing that standard of excellence," the release said.

Her experience includes overseeing the preparation of tax statements, improving payment systems for efficiency and coordinating with banks to ensure strong internal controls.
