Carol Lee (Fry) Sloan, 93, of Kalispell, passed away on Nov. 26, 2025, joining her beloved husband, Thomas Robert "Tom" Sloan, who passed away on April 9, 2014.
Carol was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Kalispell to Louis E. Fry and Caroline Wilhelm. She grew up alongside her siblings, Fred, Don, Burt and Verda, and attended Hedges Elementary School before graduating from Flathead County High School in 1949.
Tom was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Los Angeles to John Thomas Sloan and Sara Rebecca "Reba" Gibson. He was an only child, growing up in Lake and Flathead Counties, spending his early childhood at the Flathead Mines, and attended Flathead County High School before meeting Carol.
On June 12, 1949, Carol married the love of her life, Tom Sloan. Together, they welcomed five children, four of whom they raised to adulthood. The family lived between Montana and California before returning permanently to Kalispell in 1962. Tom worked a variety of jobs before retiring from Anaconda Aluminum after 27 years.
Tom and Carol devoted their lives to their family and home. Tom worked hard to provide for his "House of the Hongries" and loved wheeling and dealing in cars, trucks, motorcycles and guns, taking adventures and playing with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress and a talented knitter, creating treasured blankets and clothing for her children and grandchildren. She loved reading, jazz music and expressing her creativity through art. As a couple, they loved being involved with the local jazz community, attending concerts and donating to jazz camps for up-and-coming musicians. At the Sloan home, there was always a project underway — refinishing furniture, repairing cars, or simply creating something beautiful.
Family was at the heart of Tom and Carol’s life. They were fiercely loyal, firm when needed, forgiving always, and a steady source of love and support. After retirement, Tom and Carol enjoyed time at Ashley Lake and motorcycle trips along the Oregon Coast. Following Tom’s passing in 2014, Carol found comfort in her home, family and friends, her books, her cats, and the many visits shared over coffee and cookies.
Preceding Tom in death were his daughter, Caroline and parents, John T. Sloan and "Reba" Bergan (Gibson).
Preceding Carol in death were their daughter, Caroline; parents, Louis and Caroline Fry (Wilhelm); her siblings, Fred, Don and Burt Fry and Verda Robertson; son-in-law, KW McCaskill and her husband, Tom.
They are survived by their children, Jeri (Dean) Knapton, Rob (Judy) Sloan, Cathy (Doug) Nash and Suzy McCaskill; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Tom and Carol will be remembered for their devotion to family, their creativity and the warmth they brought to every gathering. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family.
