The community is welcome at a holiday Monday Night Dinner from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Human Rights Education Institute.

Organizer Adam Schluter said local restaurants and businesses donated 100% of the food and drink. He's expecting a crowd of up to 200 men, women and children.

"This is when people need connection the most," he said. "So many don't have a place to go for the holidays."

Trails End Brewery and Bombastic will be pouring free beer. Health-Ade donated kombuchas and nonalcoholic drinks. The Heart Church donated $500 in grocery gift cards. The Village Bakery is donating all the bread/rolls. Others also pitched in.

There will be a mobile hot chocolate bar for the kids and an outdoor sauna. The Zonky Jazz Band, an eight-piece jazz band, will be playing Christmas music.

Those attending are asked to make a $10 donation and to bring winter clothing, nonperishable food, and toys instead of a side dish. Donations go to the band.

For years, Schluter has hosted Monday night gatherings at his home to help people make new friends and build a close-knit community.

"It will be quite a beautiful display of how incredible this community comes together to support others," Schluter said.

HREI is at 414 W. Fort Grounds Drive, Coeur d'Alene.
