New bike, renewed hope

As part of the annual Press Christmas for All campaign, we share stories of those who have received help from the program. This is one of them.
“Aiden’s” bicycle was more than a means of transportation.
“My bike was my Zen,” he said. “It gave me a focus, a way to address anxiety and a way to get to work and be independent.”
But while Aiden was living in the Southwest, that bike was stolen. The theft had a domino effect on his life, which resulted in the loss of his job, housing, and ultimately his mental stability.
Since Aiden’s return to North Idaho, Chris Green with Heritage Health Street Medicine has worked closely with him through therapy and psychiatric care.
Once Green came to understand the critical role the bike had played, he shared Aiden’s story with Charity Reimagined — and thanks to the organization’s partnership with Press Christmas for All, Aiden now has a new bicycle and a renewed sense of optimism.
“Helping him get a new bike is more than just meeting a need,” Green said. “It’s helping him heal, forgive, and move forward. It’s a critical step toward employment and independence.”
Aiden said that the new bike is allowing him to keep a bucket list dream of his alive.
“I hope to teach my young nephew to ride so that later on, we can ride together,” he explained.
Aiden remains actively engaged in therapy and case management and receives housing support through Heritage Health and St. Vincent de Paul. His new bike has allowed him to regain his independence and be one step closer to securing employment.
“This bike helps my PTSD; it’s my zen and it keeps my attitude more positive,” he said.
Each year, Press readers generously donate to Press Christmas for All. Every penny raised goes to Kootenai County residents. The Hagadone Corp. covers all overhead costs.
The gift recipients are our neighbors who are struggling, including seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, people experiencing homelessness and those with mental illnesses. Many who seek assistance from Christmas for All are working but living in poverty.
Beneficiaries of Press Christmas for All keep their dignity while the community provides a hand up to help get them back on their feet.
Press Christmas for All is managed by The Hagadone Corp., with assistance from charityreimagined.org. It is a legally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers.
