Two Montana Grizzlies and two Montana State Bobcats landed spots on the FCS Football Central’s Freshman All-America Team, which was released on Monday.

Receiver Brooks Davis and right tackle Colin Amick made the squad from the 12-1 Grizzlies. Left tackle Braden Zimmer and cornerback Carson Williams were selected from the 11-2 Bobcats.

Both Montana and Montana State host FCS quarterfinal games this week: MSU battles Stephen F. Austin on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN; at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC, Montana takes on the University of South Dakota.

Davis is UM’s No. 2 receiver with 52 catches for 680 yards and five touchdowns. Amick has anchored the right side of a line that is averaging 466 yards of offense, 179.5 of that on the ground.

Williams has a team-high six pass breakups for MSU, to go with 36 tackles and a forced fumble. Zimmer has helped the Bobcats average 234.7 rushing yards a game and 433 yards overall.

In all 63 freshmen were honored, 28 on offense, 24 on defense and 11 on special teams — including punter Lachie Pozzobon of Stephen F. Austin, MSU’s opponent Friday.

South Dakota, UM’s opponent Saturday, saw corner RJ Stewart selected. Stewart has 54 tackles, three interceptions and five pass breakups for the Coyotes.

A total of 10 Big Sky Conference players were selected, including two each from UC Davis and Northern Arizona.

The Aggies’ Caden Pinnick was one of two QB’s chosen, along with Braden Atkinson of Mercer; Drew Cofield got in at defensive back for UC Davis.

NAU’s picks were Jeter Purdy at tight end and Ramere Davis at linebacker.

Idaho’s Caleb Ricks (cornerback) and Portland State’s Cru Newman (all-purpose) were also honored.

It’s the fourth year that the FCS Football Central has released its Freshman All-Americans.
