SANDPOINT — A man accused of sexual abuse and recording the alleged crime is slated to appear in court today, Dec. 9, for a pretrial hearing.
Timothy Buxton, 39, is charged with rape, video voyeurism and forcible penetration by use of a foreign object. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison and a $150,000 fine.
Buxton is expected to appear in front of District Judge Lamont Berecz and free from shackles after posting $100,000 bail.
A pretrial conference is a hearing that is scheduled before a trial and is an opportunity for both parties to discuss the case and determine whether it will go to trial or be settled through a plea agreement.
If a plea agreement on the matter is not reached, a trial is scheduled to occur Jan. 7, 2026.
Officials became aware of Buxton’s alleged crimes after the victim reported multiple videos that she had found on Buxton’s phone dating back to 2020.
According to court documents, the videos allegedly show Buxton committing sexual assault while the woman was unconscious.
He was originally arrested in November 2024 in Broadwater County.
According to jail records, Buxton was transferred to Bonner County custody Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Court documents indicate that Buxton has a lengthy history of domestic violence charges, followed by multiple no-contact order violations stemming from 2004.
