PREP BOYS WRESTLING: Three Bulldogs undefeated as Sandpoint grabs third at Van Tuinstra Duals

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 9, 2025 1:15 PM

SPIRIT LAKE — Sophomore Ty Wood, wrestling at 106 pounds, and freshman Dominic Ratigan, wrestling at 175 pounds, both went undefeated and won all three of their contested matches as the Bulldogs defeated Kellogg to claim third out of 10 teams at the Van Tuinstra Duals held Saturday at Timberlake High.

Wood won all three of his bouts by way of first-round pin, which included a victory in the third-place match that helped fuel Sandpoint to a 43-33 win over the Wildcats, which historically have had a strong wrestling program. Ratigan had two pins, one in the team's 59-15 win over Lakeland (2) and another in a 46-38 victory over Post Falls. He finished off the weekend by taking down his opponent from Kellogg via a 7-3 decision.

William Bomba (285), returning to the mat as the Bulldogs' heavyweight, posted two victories on his way to an undefeated afternoon, both of which came by way of first-round pin and happened in under 20 seconds.

Jason Symons contributed three victories for Sandpoint, which won four out of their five dual matches. Wrestling at 138 pounds, Symons picked up a win by a 16-0 technical fall thanks to three takedowns and a four-point nearfall, and had pins in a 53-16 win over St. Maries and in the third-place match against the Wildcats. Jeremiah Palmer, wrestling at 190 pounds, also compiled three wins, two of which came by pin against Post Falls and Kellogg, and one by a 15-0 technical fall that included two takedowns and two four-point nearfalls against an opponent from St. Maries.

Rounding out the Bulldogs with multiple, contested wins on the day were Jackson Holman (215), Caiden Addington (165), Gage Martin (150) and Conner Brown (132). Holman recorded wins by way of a 15-0 technical fall and by pin, Addington by pin and by a 7-4 decision, Brown by pin and by a 17-5 major decision, and Martin by way of two pins.

Coeur d’Alene and Lakeland each went 4-0 to advance to the championship dual. Instead of deciding the champion Saturday, the teams opted to settle it on Wednesday, when they meet in an already scheduled dual at Lakeland High.

Sandpoint will return to action Wednesday for a home dual against Lewiston.
