Just wait until the Tigers put together two good halves in one game.

Playing well at times last week, coach Jesse Allan and his St. Regis Tigers opened season play with a pair of wins at the Hamilton Tip-Off tourney, smacking down the Hamilton JV 54-36 Friday and blasting past the Philipsburg Prospectors 71-34 Saturday.

Now 2-0 in non-conference play, the Tigers host Valley Christian Thursday and travel to Troy Friday.

Allan said the Tigers are still a work in progress. “We are excited about what we saw in stretches, we played one great half in both games last week. The second half Friday and the first half Saturday,” he said. “We are still working on building some chemistry and working on getting our two freshmen up to speed.”

Returning All-State C performer Conner Lulis scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers to lead the Tigers against the Hamilton JV, Nathan Bohn added 13, Barrett Bessette eight, Isaac Kelly seven, Chet Hill five and Easton Gillette and Tucker Desoto two apiece.

Luke McCarthy led the Hamilton JV with 17 points.

Lulis netted 25 points in the win over Granite with another three 3-pointers sprinkled in, Kelly knocked down four treys on his way to 18 points, Bessette added 10, Hill seven, Bohn six, Desoto and Dominic Mancini two apiece and Demor Hostetler one.

JJ Lee led Philipsburg with nine points.

Allan is busy game planning for Valley Christian and Troy this week. “Valley is scrappy and run a diamond press,” he said, “and Troy has two pretty talented kids returning, but I’m not sure if they have played yet or not. We look for two good games.”

And two good halves in one game no doubt.
