WALLACE — Former Shoshone County Sheriff Holly Lindsey has been charged with inattentive driving, a misdemeanor under Idaho law.

Court clerks confirmed that while the Idaho Attorney General’s Office has not filed a probable cause affidavit, a criminal complaint was submitted. According to the complaint, the charge stems from an Oct. 21 incident in which Lindsey allegedly struck a post at the Osburn 76 gas station while driving her personal vehicle.

No one was injured in the accident, and Lindsey reportedly left her vehicle behind and returned home.

Lindsey resigned as sheriff the following day.

Because of her position, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation and forwarded its findings to the Idaho Attorney General’s Office. Deputy Attorney General Marsha Larson is serving as special prosecutor for Shoshone County.

In the weeks since, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office has faced several challenges, including the failure of a $2 million override levy and the resignations of former Undersheriff Lance Stutzke and Jail Captain Eli Lopez.

On Nov. 18, Willie Eddy was appointed sheriff.

Lindsey’s initial appearance in Magistrate Court is scheduled for Dec. 29 at 11:30 a.m. If convicted, she faces up to 90 days in jail and a $300 fine.
