The Charlo Lady Vikings opened their season with a pair of competitive games at the 13/14C Tip-Off Tournament in Hamilton, rolling to a dominant win over Victor on Friday before falling in a tight defensive battle to Seeley Swan on Saturday.
Charlo 58, Victor 37
Charlo’s offense came out firing in the season opener, putting up 32 first-half points on the way to a 58-37 victory over Victor.
Senior leaders Brielle Zempel and Graciela Hawk powered the attack. Zempel scored a game-high 23 points, going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Hawk poured in 22.
Madison Harris and Brooke Cahoon added six points apiece, helping the Lady Vikings build a comfortable lead and maintain control through four quarters.
Charlo’s defensive effort held Victor to single digits in three of the four periods, a promising indicator for a unit aiming to pressure opponents throughout District 14C play.
Seeley Swan 37, Charlo 28
Saturday’s matchup brought a tougher defensive test as Seeley Swan handed Charlo a 37-28 loss.
Despite a strong start—Charlo led 6-5 after the first quarter and tied 18-18 at halftime—the Lady Vikings struggled to convert in the third period, managing just one point while Seeley Swan pulled ahead.
Hawk again led Charlo with 8 points, while Zempel and Maizey McDonald each chipped in 6. Harris added 4, and Avery Coleman scored 3.
