Three Lake County girls basketball programs opened their seasons this weekend at the Native American Classic in Great Falls, with Mission jumping out to a perfect 2-0 start and Two Eagle River and Arlee each earning early wins on the C.M. Russell High School hardwood.

Mission picked up two quality victories, opening with a 54-40 win over Lame Deer on Friday before edging Poplar 46-42 on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs showed balance and toughness inside, paced by Cora Matt’s double-double performances. Matt posted 12 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two steals against the Morning Stars, helping Mission surge ahead 18-11 after the first quarter and maintain control.

Kieran Incashola (9 points, 6 rebounds), Taryn LaFrombois (10 points), and Shaedon Kain (8 points, 7 rebounds) all contributed on both ends, while Brooklyn McClure added eight points and three steals. Mission racked up 47 rebounds, 15 assists and 16 steals, a stat line that spoke to the team’s defensive pressure and energy.

On Saturday, Matt hauled in another 14 rebounds and scored six points, while Kieran Incashola erupted for 19 points to lead Mission past Poplar. LaFrombois added eight, and Kain chipped in five as the Lady Bulldogs closed strong to secure the win.

Two Eagle River splits opening pair

Two Eagle River rallied past Dodson 34-29 on Saturday to pick up its first victory.

After trailing early, the Lady Eagles used a 15-point third quarter to swing the momentum. Keke Tenas led the way with 14 points, while Emma SpottedEagle scored seven. Freshman Luree Shotgun and Lexis Sparks also delivered key buckets in the comeback.

Two Eagle opened the weekend Friday with a tough 53-32 loss to Frazer. Jodessa Dickson scored 14, including a strong effort attacking the rim, and Tenas added seven more in the defeat.

Arlee earns convincing win, drops matchup against Rocky Boy

Arlee also split its weekend in Great Falls, opening with a 49-22 victory over Northern Cheyenne on Friday. The Lady Scarlets controlled the game early with active defense and transition scoring.

On Saturday, Rocky Boy proved too much, handing Arlee a 53-18 loss. Still, the Scarlets leave the tourney at 1-1 with positives to build on.
