PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Pearson helps Lake City girls notch first victory

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Ella Pearson scored eight of her 19 points in the first quarter as the Lake City Timberwolves jumped out to a 16-2 lead en route to their first victory of the season, a 63-15 nonleague win over the North Central Wolfpack of Spokane on Tuesday at Lake City High. 

“We needed a win and were able to go get a win,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “It would be nice to be able to continue to build from this. The girls just played solid all around.” 

Junior Maggie Hiltenbrand scored 15 points and freshman Brynlee Johnston added 12 points for Lake City (1-7), which travels to Central Valley of Spokane Valley on Dec. 18.

North Central is 0-3.

SANDPOINT — The visiting Tigers trailed by two points at halftime, but were outscored 24-7 in the third quarter by the Bulldogs in the nonleague game at Les Rogers Court. 

Malia Miller had 15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals for Timberlake (2-3). Payton Young scored 10 of her 15 points in the first half for the Tigers, Kenna Brotherton eight points and six rebounds, Macy Murphey eight points and five boards. 

Junior Jordyn Tomco hit five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points and seven rebounds for Sandpoint (5-0). Juinor Brecken Mire added 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for the Bulldogs. 

Timberlake plays host to Lakeside on Thursday.
