SANDPOINT — Bonner County will be offering a free, two-day training regarding suicide intervention and prevention Monday, Jan. 12, and Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training will take place at the Bonner County Administrative Building, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants will receive official LivingWorks ASIST certification upon the completion of both days of the workshop.

Free registration for the training opens Dec. 14

The training, presented by North Idaho Veterans in partnership with Panhandle Public Health and NAMI Idaho, is the world’s leading suicide intervention program, applicable to all individuals in the community wanting to make a difference. The program is designed for educators, health professionals, first responders, veterans, caregivers and counselors, among others.

Participants will learn to recognize signs of suicidal thoughts, directly engage in conversations about suicide, learn to build a safety plan to provide immediate assistance and connect individuals with additional help.

Breaks and lunch will be provided for both days of training, in addition to materials applicable to the training. Individuals are encouraged to bring their own pens, notebooks, water and personal items.

ASIST is only available to individuals 18 and older due to the coverage of sensitive topics related to suicide. Discussions will be centered around medication usage, firearms and bridges.

Event location: Bonner County Administration Building, 1500 U.S. 2, Sandpoint, ID 83864

Dates: Jan. 12-13, must attend both days to be certified
