Fatal crash reported near St. Maries

A single-vehicle crash resulted in a death in the pre-dawn hours Thursday near St. Maries, according to an Idaho State Police report.

The crash occurred at 4:40 a.m. on State Highway 3 near milepost 88 when a 55-year-old female, from St. Maries was travelling northbound in a Chevrolet Captiva when the vehicle went off the roadway and came to rest against a tree. 

The driver sustained critical injuries and was transported via ground ambulance to an area hospital. The driver later succumbed to her injuries.

There were no other occupants inside the vehicle. Next of kin has been notified. 

An investigation into the crash continues.

 State Highway 3 was blocked for approximately three hours.
