MOYIE SPRINGS — Moyie Springs City Hall was transformed from an administrative office to a holiday event center when it hosted the fourth annual Moyie Springs Village Christmas Craft Sale.

The sale, which was held Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6, brought hundreds of people to browse the booths offering crafts, items and food. Everything available for sale was homemade, said Lillie Blackwell, one of the event’s creators.

Vendor Sandi Willard shared how she began making her products, which included quilts and knitted beanies.

“I actually used to work for a prison for 16 years in Oregon,” Willard said. “This was something to do to wind down from the day.”

Willard primarily sells in Moyie Springs and said the community has been very supportive.

“I don’t make money from it,” she said. “It supports my habit.”

Blackwell said the fair began as a way to come together and have fun.

“We thought, you know what, let’s just have fun,” Blackwell said. “From the very start, it’s been 200 people every single time. It’s the community coming together.”

Blackwell said organizers focus on creating a welcoming atmosphere.

“People feel that the minute they walk in the door. They’re greeted — they’re not just left on their own,” she said.

This year, she said, organizers invested in better signage.

The craft sale featured 17 vendors, including two new additions. Several children also participated as vendors; something Blackwell said was a highlight.

“We have two young children doing quilting, two that are making soap and candles and two doing fudge,” she said. “Having young people involved has been a big thing because a lot of folks gravitate toward them. They like supporting young entrepreneurs.”

Next year’s theme will be gingerbread related. When asked when preparations would begin, Blackwell smiled and said, “Tomorrow.”
