PREP WRESTLING: Bonners Ferry shines in opening wrestling event of the season

Four Badgers finished in first place at the opening high school wrestling event of the season, the Dick Griswold Memorial, on Dec. 6. Bonners Ferry finished in second place in the girls bracket, while the boys finished in fifth out of 17 teams. 

BOYS 

Seniors Gaige Johnson and Taylor Dodd both finished in first place in their respective groups to lead Bonners Ferry.  

Johnson, the number one seed in his 15-wrestler bracket, won 3-0, 3-0 and 11-8 in the final.  

Taylor Dodd, also a one seed, won 3-0, 18-3 and 20-8 in the final. 

Freshman Mark Elliston III, in his first high school wrestling event, finished in second place. He won his first two matches, 5-2 and 3-0, respectively.   

Aiden Dodd finished in third place out of 14 wrestlers, shutting out his last two opponents after losing to the top-ranked competitor.  

Colt Barras, Eivind Falck and Ethan Matthews finished in their brackets.

GIRLS 

Sophomore Kylie Calderone and Aubree Graves finished at the top of their respective groups, as Bonners Ferry finished in second place out of 12 teams. 

Seeded second, Graves won all three of her matches, with the longest match being 63 seconds.  

Calderone, who recently went to state in cross country, won both of her matches, 12-0 and 3-0.
