PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Jensen posts double-double as Priest River staves off Newport

by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 12, 2025 1:00 AM

Junior Jordyn Tomco had eight points, including a three-pointer, and a team-high four steals, sophomore Willow Betz five points and three rebounds for Sandpoint, which closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 27-18 lead heading into the locker room.

"Tough one to lose there — just some things we really shot ourselves in the foot on," Sandpoint High head coach Madi Schoening noted. "There are things that we need to clean up... totally self-inflicted, and I take a lot of credit for that. Having your first loss as a head coach teaches you a lot, just bummed it happened to be a game I thought was very winnable. We'll come out ready to go tomorrow for another 9:30 a.m. (MST) game."

Junior Livia Driggs had four points and a game-high seven rebounds, senior Jetta Thaete two points and six rebounds, and junior Carly Laybourne four points for Sandpoint (5-1), which will face Burley in their consolation semifinals matchup on Friday morning.
