PREP WRESTLING: Lumberjacks third after first day at George Wild Tournament

KELLOGG — St. Maries junior Kelby Harvey (144), senior Zach David (150), senior Amado Stewart (157), sophomore Gabe Halloran (157), senior Aiden Yearout (165), senior Zack Sotin (190) and senior Rustle Brusseau (215) advanced to the semifinals after going unbeaten on the first day of the George Wild Tournament at Andrews Gymnasium on Friday.
Sandpoint leads the tournament with 83 points.
Coeur d’Alene sophomore Micah Miller (98 pounds), junior Carter Jones (138) advanced to the semifinals for the Vikings, who are fourth out of 22 teams with 68.5 points.
Post Falls freshman Soren Hutchinson (98 pounds), freshman Reise Reardon (113), freshman Zachary Carrasco (138) advanced for the Trojans, who are sixth with 56.5 points.
Timberlake freshman Colter Schoepp (106), junior Colton D’Avanzo (106), senior Wyatt Carey (113), junior Jacob Rade (120), junior Chris Schmidt (157), senior Carter Loutzenhiser (175) moved into the semis for the Tigers, who are fifth with 66.5 points.
Kootenai senior Ashton Lewis advanced to the semifinals at 126, as did Lakeland freshman Jager McWatters (150), Lakeside senior Julian Moffitt (215) and Lakeland sophomore Dominick Kager (285).
Lake City girls ninth
after first day in Oregon
LA GRANDE, Ore. — Lake City’s Poppy Schenk (140 pounds), Aspen Kiser (145), Jordyn McHenry (170), Katie Rippentrop (170) and Brooklyn Gewecke (235) advanced to the semifinals of the Buckle Classic at La Grande Middle School.
McHenry and Rippentrop are on opposite sides of the bracket in the semifinals.
Emily Zuetrong (140) is also alive in the consolation bracket for Lake City, which is ninth out of 17 teams with 40 points.
Tournament host La Grande leads with 101 points.
